VETS TO DRONES ON SITE IN LITTLE ROCK TO PROVIDE AERIAL SUPPORT DURING DISASTER RELIEF

Published on April 16, 2023

A powerful EF3 tornado with winds up to 165 mph ripped through parts of Little Rock, Arkansas, causing widespread destruction and leaving at least 27 people dead statewide. The tornado stayed on the ground for about 20 to 25 miles and was one of many tornadoes that touched down and wrecked multiple cities across the area. Recovery efforts from many volunteer organizations are underway with workers using chainsaws to cut fallen trees and bulldozers moving material from shattered structures.

Students from Vets to Drones visited Little Rock to provide aerial supports with their drones. Providing a view from the sky provided disaster relief voluteers on the ground greater visibility, including visiblity into access points for hard to reach areas. You can visit Vets to Drones dedicated webpage, which includes multiple panoramic views of Little Rock.

The Vets to Drones program prepares veterans to enter the commercial drone industry. Graduates are Part 107 Certified and tested to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The program introduces opportunities within the commercial drone industry to the veteran community. Becoming a UAS pilot creates new and exciting career opportunities for veterans looking for more from the commercial sector. Vets to Drones' community partners span from UAS industry experts, natural disaster response agencies, NGOs that provide humanitarian aid and veteran founded businesses.
